“Hell-Bent On Carnage”: 10 Killed As Pickup Truck Rams Crowd In New Orleans

On January 1, 2025, at approximately 3:15 a.m., a tragic incident unfolded on Bourbon Street in New Orleans’ French Quarter. A driver, described by officials as “hell-bent on carnage,” intentionally drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s Eve revelers, resulting in at least 10 fatalities and 35 injuries.

After crashing the vehicle, the assailant exited and opened fire on responding police officers, injuring two, who are currently in stable condition. The suspect was subsequently shot and killed by law enforcement.

Authorities discovered improvised explosive devices at the scene, prompting the FBI to take over the investigation. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation.

The incident has been labeled a “terrorist attack” by New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, though FBI officials have stated it is “not a terrorist event.”

The attack occurred just hours before the city’s annual Sugar Bowl game, a major college football event. Despite the tragedy, the game is scheduled to proceed with enhanced security measures.

President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation, and both Governor Jeff Landry and Mayor Cantrell have expressed condolences to the victims and their families. The public is urged to avoid the area as the investigation continues.
