Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 13-kilometer section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor on January 5, 2025, connecting Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Ashok Nagar in Delhi. This segment is part of the larger 55-kilometer Namo Bharat corridor, which aims to reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut South to under 40 minutes.

Key Features of the Namo Bharat RRTS Corridor:

  • Route and Stations: The 55-kilometer corridor stretches from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South, encompassing 11 stations.
  • Travel Time: The high-speed trains are designed to cover the distance between Delhi and Meerut South in approximately 40 minutes, significantly reducing the commute time compared to traditional modes of transport.
  • Fares: Ticket prices range from ₹130 to ₹255, depending on the choice of coach and distance traveled.
  • Operational Details: Passenger services commenced at 5:00 PM on the day of the inauguration, with trains operating at 15-minute intervals to accommodate commuters.
  • Advanced Features: The RRTS introduces India’s first semi-high-speed urban transit system, offering modern amenities and enhanced safety features for passengers.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi traveled on a Namo Bharat train from Sahibabad station to New Ashok Nagar station, interacting with children and other passengers, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving regional connectivity and public transportation infrastructure.

The Namo Bharat corridor is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing regional connectivity, promoting economic growth, and providing a faster, more efficient mode of transportation for commuters between Delhi and Meerut.
