Mohali building collapse news

A tragic incident occurred in Mohali’s Sohana village on Saturday evening, December 21, 2024, when a four-storey building housing a gym collapsed. The collapse resulted in the deaths of at least two individuals: a 20-year-old woman from Himachal Pradesh and a man from Haryana’s Ambala

Rescue operations, involving teams from the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have been underway since the collapse. As of Sunday morning, approximately 60% of the debris had been cleared, with efforts continuing to locate any additional individuals who might be trapped.

Preliminary investigations suggest that unauthorized excavation work on an adjacent plot, carried out by the building’s owners, Parwinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh, may have led to the collapse. Consequently, authorities have filed a case against them under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has expressed his sorrow over the incident and stated that he is in constant touch with the administration. He has assured that action will be taken against those responsible and has appealed to the public to cooperate with the ongoing rescue operations.
