President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Indian-American entrepreneur and venture capitalist Sriram Krishnan as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the White House. In this role, Krishnan will be responsible for shaping and coordinating AI policy across the federal government, working closely with the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Born in Chennai, India, Krishnan earned a Bachelor of Technology in Information Technology from SRM Engineering College, Anna University. He began his tech career at Microsoft in 2005 and has since led product teams at major companies including Twitter, Yahoo!, Facebook, and Snap. Notably, he developed mobile ad products during his tenure at Facebook and Snap.
In February 2021, Krishnan became a general partner at the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), where he led the company’s London office by 2023. He departed from a16z in November 2023. Additionally, Krishnan co-hosts “The Aarthi and Sriram Show” podcast with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy.
Krishnan has collaborated with prominent tech figures, including Elon Musk, assisting in the restructuring of Twitter (now X) following Musk’s acquisition in 2022. His extensive experience in the tech industry positions him to effectively guide AI policy in the upcoming administration.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the appointment, Krishnan stated that he looks forward to working with David O. Sacks, the former COO of PayPal, who has been designated as the White House AI & Crypto Czar.
