We strongly condemn cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in New Orleans, referring to it as a “cowardly act.” In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed his condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. May they find strength and solace as they heal from this tragedy.”
The attack involved a 42-year-old U.S. Army veteran, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who drove a rented white Ford F-150 electric pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers in New Orleans’ French Quarter, resulting in 15 fatalities and numerous injuries. An Islamic State flag was found in the vehicle, and authorities are investigating his possible connections to the group.
Global leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden, have condemned the attack. President Biden described it as “despicable” and noted that Jabbar had posted online videos indicating inspiration from ISIS. Investigations are ongoing to determine if there are links between this incident and a subsequent explosion near a hotel in Las Vegas.
The international community continues to express solidarity with the victims and their families during this challenging time.
